SURPRISE!!!!

Hey guys! So for today’s blog post I’m going to talk about three unexpected surprises that happened to me in media. I’m just going to get right to it. The first surprise that happened to me in media is becoming friends with a whole bunch of new people. Also how much I learned. And that there are a lot of places to go after high school that is made for media.

The first thing that surprised me was I became friends with a whole bunch of new people. This mostly happened on the trip. I didn’t expect to become friends with a whole bunch of new people. On the trip we got to see different sides to everyone and go closer to everyone as well. We also got to hang out with a lot of different people.

Another surprise that happened to me in media was how much I learned. I’m a second year student this year and I’m really surprised about how much more I learned. I didn’t expect to learn much more this year because this is my second year in media. I did end up learning more editing tricks and more do’s and don’ts of interviews.

And lastly, that there is a lot of places to go after high school that is made for media related things like, filming, editing, directing, and producing. It wasn’t till this year I realized that there are a lot of colleges and places to work that is media related. I noticed this when we went to San Diego this year for STN 2015. We went to SDSU (San Diego State University), USC (University of Southern California), and we went to KPBS. And last year we went to Full Sail University in Florida. I can’t believe that I just realized this only this year!

I can’t believe that the year is winding down to an end already! I’ll miss all the eight graders that are going to in high school! YAY! And I welcome all of the newbies into this amazing and fantastic class. And I also wish Mr. M good luck with us again cause I know that we can be a little crazy sometimes. Anyway thanks for reading and hope that you guys enjoyed. Talk to guys later. BYE!!!! :)

Cyberbully

Hey guys! So for today’s blog post I’m going to talk about the movie Cyberbully. I have to say I really like this movie because of the shots it has and the sequences it has but I like it  mostly for another reason as well. This movie was made in 2011 and talks about cyberbullying, how it starts, and the consequences of it. I really love this movie because since we are the most technology consumed generation and this can happen to literally everyone now. Even first graders have instagram and snapchat and all of those social media apps. Cyberbullying is horrible, not only is it bad that people get bullied but, it happens all over the internet. Since anyone can be anyone online you don’t know who you’re really talking to. For example in the movie there was a girl who, online, posed to be a boy and said all kinds of mean things about the main character, Taylor. Kids don’t really think about these kinds of things and this movie does a really good job at raising awareness for this problem. When Taylor was fed up with the bullying she decided to post a video and say that she was going to kill herself. One of her friends saw this and quickly drove over to her house and called Taylor’s mother.Thank gosh that her friend came over when she did. She found Taylor in the bathroom trying to open a pill bottle. She fought Taylor for the pill bottle and her mother came in and took over. This was a very traumatic and dramatic scene in the movie. This movie is on Netflix and if you ever have the chance, I really recommend you watch this movie! Anyways I hope you enjoyed. And just to remind you, words can hurt, so watch what you say online. Talk to you guys later. BYE!!!!! :)

Lessons Well Learned

Hey guys! So for today’s blog post I’m going to talk about three extremely important lessons I learned while I was in the mieda. Lesson number one is the always be prepared. Lesson number two is to the classic ‘do not procrastinate’ and the last lesson is to always practice more than three times for the announcements.

So the first lesson while I learned in the media class was to always be prepared. What I mean by this is to always have an extra SD card, extra batteries, and things like that. The thing that led me to learning this is doing one of my projects in an interview I we forgot an SD card my partner and my face paled when we realized this. It was heart crushing! So that lesson was learned.

The second lesson I learned was the ‘do not procrastinate.’ I know that practically everyone is probably going to write about this but it is really important. Here’s the definition of procrastination:

pro·cras·ti·na·tion

prəˌkrastəˈnāSH(ə)n/

noun

  1. the action of delaying or postponing something.

Procrastination is literally the worst thing to do in this class. The thing that led me to learning this is last year during 3rd quarter we had to do a PSA and I procrastinated so bad that I only had a few days to edit and film. It was so bad. I ended up turning it in on time but couldn’t help feeling that I could have done a better job.

And last but not least always practice more than three times for the announcements. This is so crucial because of the fact that you’re broadcasting this to the whole school and you most definitely don’t want to mess up. What led me to learning this? Well once my team practiced only twice and let’s just say it wasn’t pretty.

These are three lessons I learned while in the media class. And I hope that you guys can learn from this too. Anyway thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed. Talk to you guys later! BYE!!!! :)

Advice For Our CKTV Newbies!

5/10/2015

Hey guys! This week’s blog post is going to be, what three pieces of advice would you give the newbies? Well three pieces of advice that I would give is: stay organized, listen to all critiques, and check your shots BEFORE you leave.

The first piece of advice that I would give the newbies  stay organized! I cannot even stress enough how important it is to always stay organized. I cannot even stress this enough! I am not the neatest person in the world so you can take my word for it when I say being organized is the best thing that you can possibly do. If you aren’t organized you might miss your deadlines, forget about your snack shop duties, and miss your radio deadlines. None of those are good, at all.

The second piece of advice that I would give is to listen to all critiques. Some critiques that you can get may seem harsh, but all critiques are meant to help you improve on your work. So make sure that you really listen to critiques that you get and remember that these critiques will help you.

And the last piece of advice that I would give to the newbies is to check all of you shots BEFORE you leave. This goes for an interview or just a regular shot. It’s really frustrating when you went somewhere that isn’t the easiest to get to for an interview or a shot and then go home then check the shot/interview and realize that it doesn’t have audio! It feels even worse (yes things can get worse) when you need to call the interviewee and tell them that you need to reschedule for another date because you chose not to check your audio BEFOREHAND! That person just took time out of their schedule to let you film them for your project and now they need to do it again. And since we middle school kids can’t drive yet your parent/guardian needs to take time out of their schedule to drive you there. So it just goes to show that you MUST check all of your shots beforehand.

These are three things that I can guarantee will help our newbies out so much in this media class. Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed. I really hope you take my advice, even if you aren’t a newbie. Talk to you guys later. BYE!!!!! :)

Bell Schedule, Would I Change Anything?

5/3/2015

Hey guys! So for today’s blog post I’m going to talk about our schools bell schedule. Now if you don’t already know CKMS had a different bell schedule last year, the question that we will be asking today is: would I change anything about our schedule? The answer is, yes. Here are some things that I would change: the first thing that I would change is the lunch schedule. The second thing that I would change is the time we end school. And the last thing that I would change is the and the advisory schedule.

So first things first, I would want to change the lunch schedule. Last year all teams ate at the same time, all 6th graders ate five minutes earlier and 7th and 8th graders ate at the same time. Now all down stairs teams eat first and have recess for thirty minutes, while the upstairs teams have advisory. Then after that they switch. I liked our schedule last year because most of my friends that are not in media are down stairs teams that means that I am slowly growing more and more away from them. Also this new lunch schedule claims to shorten lines. In my opinion I feel this doesn’t really help the lines.

The second thing that I would change about our schedule is the time we end school. We used to end school at 2:00 pm. Now we end school at 2:45 pm. Now, I know that it’s only a forty-five minute difference, but still. Think about it, would you want to end school at 2 or 2:45.

And the last thing that I would change is the advisory schedule. Last year advisory was in the morning, now it’s in the noon/afternoon. You may be thinking, “Why would you change that? You have more time to practice for the announcements, and that means less mistakes!” Well, yeah but, I feel that advisory should be in the morning instead of in the noon/afternoon. To me it just doesn’t feel right. I would also like to do our announcements before hand, right after we practice. I feel that we don’t make as much mistakes as we would if we practice, go to two classes and recess. You have it still fresh in your head if you do it in the morning.

These are the three things that I would change about our school bell schedule. What would you change? Anyway thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed! Talk to you guys later! BYE!!!!!! :)

Mysteries At The Museum

Hey guys! So for today’s blog post I’m going to talk about a show that I came across of called, Mysteries At The Museum. This show, I feel, is extremely intriguing. This show talks about different types of things found at museums and the secrets what it hides. One episode that I liked in particular was an episode that talked about a chisel. Now this isn’t any chisel, this chisel was used to steal the 16th president, Abraham Lincoln’s dead body. The story was that a group of bandits made a plan to steal the body of Abe Lincoln, but none of them knew how to do steal a body that was already in a grave. Then they met a man who said he had done this before and that he could help them. The bandits and the man made the plans. Then the night came, they were all set to steal the body and all they needed to do was break the padlock to get to the sarcophagus which held the president’s coffin. They used that same chisel to break the padlock and they used it to open the sarcophagus. They all tried to carry the coffin but realized that it was too heavy for them to carry so the man went to get the carriage driver and left the bandits there to wait. All of a sudden the bandits here a gunshot and quickly make a hasty retreat because they thought that the police caught the man. The next day they went down to “the hub” which is where the bandits met, and they saw that the man, who they had thought got shot by police, was there. A few minutes later police came in and arrested everyone in there, except for the man. Turns out the man was Lewis Swegles, and he worked with The Secret Service all along. As you can see this show is super intriguing! I really recommend that you watch this show, it’s on Netflix by the way. Anyway thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed! Talk to you next week! BYE!!!!! :)

Here's a trailer for one of the episodes! Hope you enjoy!

CKTV Family Night Video

4/26/2015

Hey guys! So the end of the school year is nearing which means it's time to pick out a video we're all going to show at the annual CKTV Media family night. This night is where we show work that we do and kind of talk about what CKTV does. So the video that I want to show at the family night this year is my first quarter project on Microbead pollution. I did this video with my partner Serena, and here's why:

Firstly, I personally feel that this is the best quarter project that I have done this year. We worked so hard on this and it came out FANTASTIC! We have some pretty clean shots, nice transitions, and we had a pretty good topic (thanks dad!) I really liked how this whole video turned out.

Secondly, this video got a good grade. I’m really proud of the grade that this video got. We got an A- for this project. That’s good grade in my book. And yeah it could have had some work on it but, still I think that it was a great project.

And lastly, I feel that this really shows the things and what we really do here in CKTV. We find these stories, we film B-roll, get and film interviews, edit, and put together these stories. This is hard work but, in the end it is totally worth it! I love this class!

These are three reasons why I want to show this video. I love this class. It teaches so many things to help you make films, create stories, and do little things like PSAs. Thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed! Talk to you later BYE!!!!!!!!! :)
